BHS Senior Ella Sharp Represents Bardstown on Washington Youth Tour

Bardstown High School senior Ella Sharp represented Bardstown on the Salt River Electric Washington Youth Tour, joining students from across Kentucky for a six-day journey in Washington, D.C.

For more than 60 years, the Youth Tour has connected students from rural communities to the heart of our government, giving them a front-row seat to history, leadership, and the power of their own voices.

For Ella, the experience was “insightful, inspirational, and impactful.”

“Some of the most memorable places were the Capitol and the Smithsonian Museum of American History,” Ella shared. “While at the Capitol, we had the opportunity to hear from congressional delegates, ask questions, and learn where the future of our nation is headed. We also met with members of congressional cabinets, and those conversations were incredibly insightful. They didn’t sugarcoat life in politics, and I walked away with a better understanding of how government really works.”

One stop that left a lasting impression on Ella was the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum:

“I had understood the depth of the Holocaust, but the museum put it into perspective for me. I am so fortunate to live in a time and country where I can practice the religion I want freely.”

Ella says the trip helped her realize just how much one person’s voice matters.

“This trip showed me that I may be from a small town, but that doesn’t limit the big changes I can make. I’ve been inspired to keep working hard and stand up for what I believe in.”

Ella’s story reflects what we hope for every Bardstown student — the curiosity to ask big questions, the courage to explore new ideas, and the confidence to make a difference. Her experience in Washington is a reminder that even from a small community, our Tigers can make a big impact.

She encourages other students to take advantage of this opportunity.

“You meet amazing people from across the state and country. You experience your government firsthand. Because that’s what the government is — ours. This experience can change your life, and I highly recommend students apply!”
