The Bardstown High School Site-Based Decision Making Council has selected Dr. Amy Allen Compton to serve as the next principal. Compton has more than a decade of educational leadership experience, coupled with previous time spent as a teacher and school counselor.
“Dr. Compton’s wealth of administrative experience and academic expertise, proven leadership ability, and focus on creating opportunities that maximize the potential of students make her the ideal choice,” said Dr. Ryan Clark, superintendent of Bardstown City Schools. “I look forward to partnering with her to ensure even greater success and excellence for our high school.”
In her past administrative roles, Compton oversaw curriculum development, professional growth of faculty and staff members, and launched new career pathways. She holds a Doctorate of Education in instructional leadership, a Master of Arts in school counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in education, all from Western Kentucky University. In 2021, the Glasgow Business and Professional Women’s Club named Compton as the Distinguished Woman award recipient.
Since 2017, Compton has been the principal at Glasgow High School (GHS) in Glasgow, Kentucky. To prepare students for post-secondary success she collaborated with staff to launch five new career pathways and a Best First College Coach program aimed for students interested in highly competitive colleges. Under Compton’s supervision Glasgow High was continuously ranked within the top 11 of Kentucky high schools by US News and World Report.
Previously, she served in additional administrative positions, including principal for Highland Elementary School in Glasgow, and principal at Barren County 9th Grade Trojan Academy in Glasgow.

I am excited to meet our students, help them achieve their dreams, and work with the fantastic staff at Bardstown High School, Dr. Clark, and the entire team at Bardstown City Schools. Bardstown is a special community, and I am elated to be an integral part of it.”
Dr. Compton replaces Dr. Josh DeWar who moved to the role of principal at Bardstown Elementary. She will assume the principal position on July 1. Students and families will be able to meet Dr. Compton at the Back to School Bash on July 31.
