Bardstown City Schools is expanding its school safety team with the addition of a second School Resource Officer.
Mike Medley will join the district on July 1, 2026, bringing more than 21 years of law enforcement experience and a strong commitment to serving young people. Officer Medley’s office will be located at Bardstown Elementary School, and his role will primarily focus on supporting elementary students and campuses spanning preschool through 5th grade.
“What I have learned in my twenty-plus years of law enforcement is that the greatest impact comes from serving your community,” said Officer Medley. “I am honored to be able to continue serving our younger generation as a School Resource Officer.”
Medley began his law enforcement career with the Lebanon Police Department before joining the Bardstown Police Department in 2008. He retired from the department in February 2025 as a Detective Sergeant after a distinguished career that included criminal investigations, crisis intervention, leadership, and community policing.
Following his retirement, Medley served as a School Resource Officer with Nelson County Schools during the 2025-26 school year. In that role, he worked closely with students, staff, and families while helping maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
The addition of a second SRO will allow the district to increase its presence across all five schools and better meet the needs of nearly 3,000 students. It will also provide greater opportunities for relationship-building, prevention efforts, and student support.
“Our goal is for every student to feel safe, connected, and supported each day they walk through our doors,” said Dr. Ryan Clark, BCS Superintendent. “Adding a second School Resource Officer strengthens that commitment and allows us to provide an even greater level of support across the district.”
Medley’s background makes him especially well-suited for the role. Throughout his career, he has received extensive training in crisis intervention, de-escalation, leadership, emergency response, and school safety. He is known for his professionalism and ability to build trust within the communities he serves.
