Bardstown High School Welcomes Nicole Thompson as New Guidance Counselor

Bardstown High School proudly announces Nicole Thompson as the new Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Thompson, who has been a part of the BHS community since 2015, will work directly with freshmen to ease their transition into high school.

Mrs. Thompson will focus on freshmen students in her new role, helping them acclimate to the new challenges and opportunities high school presents. Her responsibilities will include student scheduling, managing 504 plans, and overseeing the Advanced Placement (AP) programs and exams. Mrs. Thompson’s deep understanding of the academic and emotional needs of high school students makes her uniquely qualified for this pivotal role.

Since January, Mrs. Thompson has split her school day between Bardstown Elementary and Bardstown High School. She has spent part of her school day serving 2-5 grades as a guidance counselor at BES while continuing to teach AP social studies classes at BHS.

Previously, Mrs. Thompson completed a counseling internship at Bardstown High School, where she contributed to credit recovery programs and collaborated with community partners to facilitate group counseling sessions. She also played a critical role as one of the leaders in the response to intervention groups.

“I am grateful for my experience working with the students, staff, and administrative team at Bardstown Elementary School.  I will forever value the knowledge gained and the relationships developed during my time as their counselor,” said Thompson. “I am excited to rejoin my colleagues at Bardstown High School in the upcoming school year.  I know my classroom experience teaching freshmen for the past 13 years will help me transition into this new role and I look forward to helping our students and families of BHS in the near future.”

Thompson has also been actively involved with the youth outside the classroom, serving as the varsity cheerleading coach and the director of the youth league cheer. She will continue to serve in those roles, managing the high school sideline cheer and youth cheerleading teams.

Mrs. Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Bellarmine University, a master’s degree in teaching from the University of the Cumberlands, and a Rank I certification in school counseling from Campbellsville University.

She will begin her new role as a counselor at BHS on July 1, 2024.  Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Thompson to her new role, where her expertise and enthusiasm will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the students and families of Bardstown High School.
