BHS Students Gain College Credit and National Recognition Through AP Success

Bardstown High School students are proving that hard work and dedication pay off. This year, Bardstown Tigers achieved incredible success on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams, with dozens of students earning college credit and many receiving national recognition from the College Board.

87 students earned passing scores, opening doors to future opportunities, and 40 students achieved AP Scholar recognition for their exceptional performance across multiple exams.

“We are incredibly proud of these students,” said Dr. Ryan Clark, Superintendent of Bardstown City Schools. “Their success shows what’s possible when opportunity, hard work, and community support come together. These tigers are proving they’re ready for college, careers, and beyond.”

What is Advanced Placement?

Bardstown High School offers 14 AP classes in subjects such as art, history, literature, math, science, and Spanish. These courses, created by the College Board, challenge students with college-level material and help them develop skills like time management, critical thinking, and scholarly writing.

At the end of the course, students take an AP exam scored on a 1–5 scale. A score of 3 or higher can qualify students for college credit or advanced placement at many universities.

Taking AP courses allows students to:

  • Earn college credit and save on tuition costs.
  • Show colleges their motivation and readiness for rigorous work.
  • Develop the study habits and skills needed for long-term success.
  • Explore majors and career paths before leaving high school.

Celebrating Student Achievements

This year, 40 BHS students earned AP Scholar honors based on their strong performance across multiple AP exams.

  • 26 students earned the AP Scholar Award (score of 3+ on at least three exams).
  • 6 students earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award (score of 3+ on four or more exams, average score of 3.25+)
  • 8 students earned the AP Scholar with Distinction Award (score of 3+ on five or more exams, average score of 3.5+).

To celebrate these remarkable achievements, Bardstown High School delivered AP Scholar yard signs to students’ homes. If you spot one of these signs around town, give a friendly honk to congratulate our Tigers!
