Dr. John Eveland Named New Assistant Principal at Bardstown Middle School

Bardstown City Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. John Eveland as the new assistant principal at Bardstown Middle School.

Dr. Eveland is a highly effective educator with 14 years of teaching experience. Eveland began his career in education as a math teacher at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School. In 2012, Eveland joined the Bardstown High School mathematics department where he taught several advanced placement and dual credit courses. Eveland also serves as an adjunct professor for several universities and is a lead teacher for the UK Next Generation Leadership Network at Bardstown High.  Currently, he is serving as the assistant principal at Bardstown Alternative School, a position created as part of the district’s learning support plan to help students transition back into full-time in-person school for the 2021-22 school year. The position, along with three other assistant principal positions, were temporary positions funded through federal covid relief grants.

“I feel very fortunate to have a leader like Dr. Eveland available in our district to provide administrative support to Bardstown Middle School,” said Dr. Ryan Clark, superintendent of Bardstown City Schools.  “Transferring John into the support position left vacant by Mr. Bartley’s appointment to principal allows us to fill this position without any delays. He will provide meaningful leadership and be a great addition to the BMS administrative team.”

Before becoming a public school educator Eveland was a youth minister. His love for working with young people led him to a career in education. Eveland earned his Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Murray State University, a Master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s degree in instructional leadership from Georgetown College. He earned his Rank I in secondary education from Murray State University and holds a doctorate in education from Murray State University.

Eveland replaces BMS Assistant Principal Matthew Bartley who is assuming the role of principal upon Melissa Taylor’s retirement. Eveland will begin his new role January 3rd, 2022.
